Seasonal color types and my vision on it.

During my work as a makeup artist and stylist I’ve heard multiple women saying they had a seasonal color type session. Like by checking with different colored fabrics what matches your complexion, hair and eyes. I noticed lots of them are stuck on that analysis and skip some colors/color tones they actually like regarding clothing and or makeup.

To me such sessions don’t make sense, in first place because most people don’t look the same whole year round. In winter time you might be more pale, sun tanned in summer and have a natural hair highlight by the sun. That already makes you look different and might bring more pink or yellow on the surface of your skin. Myself when I get tanned it increases the olive tone. You also can’t use the same foundation color all year round and might vary in undertone needed then. Also think about the models that have multiple looks and have to be chameleons often. The stylist makes it work.

When it comes to makeup you can manipulate how colors will look, for example, by using eyeliner, lip pencil and even change the color of the brows. Not always, but you can make a color work by adding something that breaks it and makes it look more alive.

The same goes for clothes. Most forget an accessory can make a huge difference. Especially a standing out necklace. You can also experiment with belts, bracelets, earrings and even a tiara. Gold or silver can make a total look different. Layering also gives lots of contrasts. As long as it breaks the dullness or just a color you can make it work. It’s a way of experimenting and exploring what you really like and what feels good to you. In my opinion nobody can tell you you are a kind of type. What if you don’t like the winter type and you want to be the summer type because those color tones make you happy.

You have to experiment with your look yourself just by knowing what you like and how to combine makeup or clothes to make it work in your total look. Don’t get stuck on narrow visions and don’t be afraid to be an unique individual.
